Dutch Delight Website
Love the Internet for stuff like this.
Our vote for ‘Remarkable Website of the Day’ goes to this Remarkable Corvettes website.

Mario van Ginneken [nickname Cenobyte] lives in the Netherlands and is a rabid Corvette fan. He’s owned 3 Vettes, to date [including a ’93 ZR-1 and a yellow ’86 C4 that served as his 'wedding carriage' when he married lovely Marion in 1999].

But, most importantly [to us], he created a great on-line catalog of Corvette prototypes and specials [GM and 3rd-party builders]. Cenobyte has some great pics [eg- Are we the only ones that never heard of this 1963 'Wedge Corvette' before?]. Plus, he seems to have his facts really straight!

Also visit his personal Cenobyte website to find even more Corvette-ish-ness in his ‘pictures’ album, his ‘slot car racing’ page [the guy is naming his custom-built tracks after Corvette and Zora!], and of course his ‘Corvette’ link.

Wow. How do you say “Well Done” in Dutch, anyway?

On the subject of prototypes, I have uploaded a few pics from the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 2003 which included the Moray, Mako Shark, Corvette mid engined prototype from 1973 and also one of the 5 original Grand Sports.

Another Kink in the 4 Car's Armor
O'Connell / Magnussen won their 6th of seven races, 5th in a row. But, only after a dominating performance from Gavin / Beretta went for nil....and hopefully not without more intra-team controversy [seems not].

52 minutes from race end, with Gavin in the lead and Mag’s chasing, the two Corvettes went after each other, again. Gavin speaks, "Jan was behind me, I was pushing hard, and I was trying to make up some time." [because despite the lead, pit strategy was going to turn the race over to the #3 if Gavin didn’t create an on-track gap].

But, Gavin went off course in the high-speed Kink, the fastest corner on the fastest straight on a very fast 4-mile track. "I just turned the car in too quickly and got on the inside curb. The car shot across to the exit curb and onto the grass. [Once] on the grass, there was no way I could hold it.” Gavin was uninjured in the incident.

To that point, #4 had been lapping quicker than the GT1 field – 6th tenths over the #3, 3.4 seconds over the AM ‘Show Car’ [You all DID know that the Bell car is a converted display vehicle?].

The GM press release covers it all.

The Riley built Corvette GT2 car will race at Petit this year, either to be entered by LG Motorsports or by Riley themselves....

Great interview with both Riley and Lou on DSC...

Gavin 1st to Figure Both Pedals On Bike Are Gas
Gavin defeated Fehan, taking the victory by 50 yards after a fast and furious 9-minute sprint.

While Gavin was 1st on-track, Fehan won the fundraising - $3,845 in pledges to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Gavin rode home on behalf of $2,065 supporter dollars.

The winner speaks, "Doug rode phenomenally. He pushed me the whole way, and it only came to the bit just before Canada Corner when I decided that if I was going to go, I had to go now."

Fehan took his defeat in stride. "I think Oliver’s marathon-based training program proved superior to my Cabernet and Patron Tequila-based conditioning program. Although I dominated the first 2/3 of the race, in Canada Corner I saw Oliver's wife and three children looking so forlorn at his struggle to keep up that I dropped back and gave him the lead. My disappointment at not taking the win was offset by seeing the smiles on his family's faces when he crossed the finish line first. That's my story, and now I’m looking forward to a rematch – and I’m sure that Olly is too."

Aston Martin Mates with Corvette
OK, we know. Sometimes we rip on AM too much for some of our readers. BUT, then THEY do something like this and there really is nothing else to do except let the snark fly.

Presenting the new Aston Martin One-77 ....with ZR1 front fender vents.

At least BMW's Bangle TRIES to be different. At AM, the new owners [AM collector John Sinders and 2 Kuwaiti investment companies, Investment Dar and the Adeem Investment Co.] apparently think a scanner and Photoshop are cutting-edge design tools.

What's next? The AM 'wing logo' with a Jake-like skull? Oops.

Ehh, give them credit for something. Those cars are flat out beautiful, although the fenders are similar. Still even the corvette has flattered other cars

Look at the results here and you see what the problem is. Godug is more than a little pissed. Although he's beating Oliver Gavin in donations for the bike race to end all bike races, he's only at about half of his donation goal. This means "lose" to him as much as losing to Gavin in the actual race. Godug does not, repeat does NOT, like to lose ANYTHING.

So he's raising the ante.

Whoever is the bidder with the highest donation - to him - he will throw in a hot lap at Road America in a C6RS and a "Take No Prisonors" BBV T-shirt autographed by the team . So what are you waiting for?? This is certainly a once in a BBV opportunity. You can bid here! All donations are tax deductible - so let's put a smile on that great stone face!

Repeat, No Repeat at Spa 2008
Corvette did not repeat as 24 winners. Instead, it's a repeat of Le Mans where a much-applauded / appreciated and valient effort came up short.

2 Maserati's led the field. Spin, accident, fire, an engine misfire, an overnight rebuild [from the SRT accident] that didn't take.....all worked against the Corvette effort.

Now, the focus moves back to the championship battles with Phoenix still fighting [from its second place position] for the Team and Driver awards. 5 races remain, including the final event on November 23rd in Argentina.

That's just unlucky, we were leading for a while too. If all this didn't happen, the vettes would have had a huge chanc eof winning
