i like the smack talk... and even better the fact that it can be backed up!
--- Ambrecht from unknown on 01.11.08 at 12:34 am
lol, nice. Personally, I like the Aston with the upgraded sticker better ;)
--- JT from CA on 01.11.08 at 2:11 am
Take no prisoners at the 24 hours at Lemans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--- johnnyoooo from rochester N.Y. on 01.11.08 at 7:37am
OK - Tail tweaking aside the fact is that Gulf colours have raced at Le Mans on everything from Porsches, Mclaren F1s, an Audi R8, Courages and last year on a Zytek.
Your comment is as ridiculous as suggesting that Vettes shouldn't carry yellow as that's what the Belgian ferraris in the 60s ran with
--- G from unknown on 01.11.08 at 9:06am
Wow you must have gotten G's goat. He sounds a little testy about the imitator wearing Gulf livery. I guess he just didnt get the anniversary part. And I never heard the AM guy's thank their best sponsor: the ALMS. Thank to them the Corvettes were choked down and weighted down so the snivlers could pretend to run with a LEGEND!!! When they can run straight up with the Vettes they have something, until then take their Sh*& home and fix it!!!! Long live the Corvette, long live a true LEDGEND!!!
--- Powell from Virginia on 01.11.08 at 11:45am
Personally I think the story that Corvette is racing the GT4 class is a bit more interesting.....I found the article on of course Corvettemotorsport.com then later today on dailysportscar.com.
--- Brian from Europe on 01.11.08 at 12:51am
I love BBV as much as anyone, but this was quite a bonehead post. Many cars have run with the Gulf livery at Le Mans, so to call them out because they're running the same livery that a Ford ran, is pretty dumb. Ford was the only car to win while wearing it, but still the principle is the same...
--- Mike from MI on 01.11.08 at 2:22pm
bonehead or not - to run the Gulf livery of the great (& fearless) GT 40s while avoiding ALMS GT1competition here is obscene and just poser. We'll settle the score at Le Mans.
--- eddie from unknown on 01.11.08 at 2:35pm
"Testy" - Nah don't think so, just more interested in accuracy than you apparently
The GT40 ISN'T the only Gulf liveried car to win at LM btw - The Mirage did it again in 1975.
As for the Anniversary part, Who cares?
What you probably should be more interested in is where this takes the AM vs Vette battle in years to come.
--- G from unknown on 01.11.08 at 3:48pm
Regardless of the anniversary or who else has used the livery, I don't think this looks very good on the AM. Yellow fits the vette, but I haven't seen anything I like on AM yet.
--- BFisch06 from Detroit on 01.11.08 at 7:10pm
Actually G, it takes the battle nowhere. the AM's cannot compete straight up the the Vettes. The only races they won the rules had the weight on the Vettes. And thats accurate, check it. Now if they cant get enough out of a V-12 to run with a V-8, paint will surely not make up the difference. Run them straight up same weight same air and see what happens. No contest. Keep dreaming G!!!!!!
--- Powell from Virginia on 01.12.08 at 8:26am
I am sure they would race more but it all comes down to money and budgets! Hopefully they run GT2 here in the USA.
--- SpeedpupC5 from unknown on 01.13.08 at 4:49pm
Fact is that in Europe most of the teams that ran Vetts last year are running Astons this year. They may be crap at winning races and cheat like f**k in the process but as far as selling race cars they have Corvette beaten hands down. I used to work for Prodrive and belive me they don't give a s**t about winning anything else other than LeMans cos thats whats sells cars and Mr Richards (the boss) is very good at selling anything!!
--- Geoff J from Ann Arbor MI on 01.15.08 at 9:34am
And how many did they sell Geoffee? Not enough to outsell the only American sports car - Corvette!
--- Hexmate-T Corvette from Michigan on 01.15.08 at 11:37am
I say let's race 'em and let the checkered flag sort it out! The yellow beasts will rock AMs world!
--- Tom from Atlanta, GA on 01.16.08 at 12:43am
Take no prisoners Corvette.
Assassinate Aston at the 24 Hours of le mans and grab 1st in class whatever the cost
--- Bezza Chalk from Luton, Outskirts of London on 01.17.08 at 8:01am
Hey has anyone seen the Mazda Furai??? That car should be racing in GT1 ALMS!!! Its pretty bad ass... I guess I have just always liked rotory powered vehicles. Definatly check it out on youtube tho cuz its fast!
--- ride250s from Iowa on 01.17.08 at 1:57am
Fact that AM isn't interested in winning anything else but LeMans is most likely because they can't win anything else. Oh, maybe they win a race here and there, but like everyone here has said lets do it pound for pound, no ballast and no restrictor plates. Wait, maybe if the C6R only used 3 wheels instead of all four, Hmm?
--- JP from Tennessee on 01.17.08 at 11:30pm
Another sad Gulf poser: http://images.vetteweb.com/events/vemp_0607_03z+ncrs_corvette_car_show+orange_corvette.jpg
Did the Astons have an advatage at the first Sebring race they ran? I can't remember.
Wow, you vette guys are sorry ass losers, more like BigBitchVettes.com
--- Anonymous from unknown on 01.19.08 at 4:52pm
Sorry ass losers?
The Corvette Racing record says something different....
...very different.
--- BFisch06 from Detroit on 01.20.08 at 6:20am
Ok Boys, it's gettin ugly, all we need is someone to race against. Is it that hard to find some competition! Corvette Racing is in a class all by itself.THE KING OF ENDURANCE ROAD RACING!
--- johnnyoooo from rochester N.Y. on 01.20.08 at 9:55am
So come to Europe and back that up! otherwise stfu about records as you keep saying you dont have any compertition, if it wont come to you then you will have to go to it.
Even then the 'Ford' which wore the great Gulf livery was designed and built just down the road from Aston Martin, in Slough.
I'd be shocked if Prodrive contest a full season after the insults they recieved in 2006, and since then, and the great Mr Athertons coments. Oh Corvette loved the competition, until Laguna Seca when they had a proper cry.
please do research next time. the gulf colors have been used by Zytek, McLaren Porsche, and others. Aston Martin Racing is NOT funded by Aston Martin. please do research and stop making yourself look like an idiot.
--- alms fan from usa on 01.26.08 at 6:22pm
Possible JAKE sighting? He was last seen at the North American International Auto show in Detroit sitting inside a Cyber Grey ZR1. Porsche and Aston Martin were not present, although their was room for Aston Martin in the basement.
--- johnnyoooo from rochester N.Y. on 01.27.08 at 10:38am
You boys over there need to learn that ProDrive are only interested in Le Mans not the ALMS. As much as is irks you, the ALMS isn't valued outside of the US. Corvette and Aston have a great sporting rivalry at Le Mans, leave the sour grapes behind when you come over here. I have an 07 z06 by the way - no axe to grind.
--- bill from london on 01.27.08 at 6:39pm
Looks like all our prayers have been answered. We get to duke it out with AM in GT1 and GT2 this year in ALMS and at Le Mans.
--- PhaetonChix from Meechigan on 01.28.08 at 5:12pm
yes, with a privateer team so keep that in mind
--- alms from usa on 01.28.08 at 12:32pm
I think you guys are all missing the point here. Sponsorship from Gulf Oil means money. Money Prodrive never got from Ford when they owned Aston Martin. All Prodrive got from the deal with Ford was 25 VIN numbers which they could use to make and sell customer cars. The idea was that that strategy would pay for the racing. It didn't.
With massive sponsorship money from Gulf Oil Prodrive will be able to spend in the same league as GM. And let's not forget that Prodrive beat Corvette Racing at Le Mans last year where the DBR9s got no rule breaks.
And least you forget, Prodrive came within a cat's whisker of beating Corvette Racing in the 2004 ALMS championship when they were running a Ferrari 550.
It's not fear of competition that is keeping Prodrive out of ALMS, it's money, or more specifically the lack thereof. If Prodrive gets serious cash out of the Gulf Oil deal look for them to be back in ALMS.
And if you're a race fan you want them back in competition because let's face it, GT1 in 2007 was a bore. And I'm a Corvette racing fan and Z06 owner.
